On Aug. 14, 2003, New York City went powerless in a massive blackout. Some people were stranded on trains, some got stuck in elevators, and others were … getting married.

Traffic lights were not working, making it hard for people to travel. Refrigerators were out, presenting a major food safety issue. People braved the summer heat with no air-conditioning, and they relied on flashlights and candles at night. But even amid all the chaos, love prevailed, and couples proceeded to wed.

As we approach the 20th anniversary of the 2003 blackout, we are working on a story about weddings that were affected by the two-day blackout. Did you get married during the 2003 blackout? Did you go to a wedding during the power outage? Do you have any interesting stories from that time? We’d like to hear from you.
